The Bookmaker Fade List - 2/24/09

Didn't bother yesterday because there were so few games. Today's shopping list for squares, otherwise known as Bookmakers ten most popular bets today:

1. Magic
2. Bobcats
(this is almost certainly a mistake - should be Phoenix)
3. Pitt
4. Lakers
5. Cavs
6. FC Porto
7. LSU
8. Syracuse
9. Barcelona
10. Creighton

There's no chance that Bobcats isn't a typo, and that whoever typed it in over there meant to type Suns. For the first time I can remember, there are soccer picks in the top 10 (2 of them). I wonder if it's the playoffs or something. Other than that, just the usual square suspects - Lakers, Cavs, Magic - except for mid-major Creighton making the list. I was going to say "good for them" but since inclusion on the above list usually means the game is going to be closer than expected, the Bluejays would probably prefer not to be mentioned. Back later if I ever get out of the office tonight.

Something odd must be going on, because SI has that charlotte/phx game getting basically 50/50 action. There is no way.

Seeing Porto on this list looks very strange to me.

I use some public/square soccer websites/forums for my picks myself and was wondering because there the most people are on Athletico Madrid (the opponent of porto today).

Jonny,

I agree. Absolutely no way.

Wagerline: 81% Suns
Carib: 94% Suns
Sports Interaction: 92% Suns

However, Sportsbook is showing 80% Charlotte, which I can only guess is another typo. Very strange. I may have to consider staying away from that one.

Ninersfan,

Don't know much about soccer, but seeing Bobcats on the list, it's certainly possible there's another error up there today.

I was trying to talk Grover into doing something with soccer, so feel free to share the public/square sites with us. Are Porto, Madrid, Barcelona, etc. in some kind of playoffs or other event? For a book like Bookmaker, which accepts US customers, it's surprising to see soccer picks in the top ten unless something big is going on.

Yes.
