Happy New Year everybody. Today's college basketball picks:
Youngstown State +6.5 -103, 1.03 units to win 1 unit
Troy +12.5 -105, 1.05 units to win 1 unit
Denver +3.5 -110 (WSEX), 1.1 units to win 1 unit
Northern Colorado +4.5 +104, 1 unit to win 1.04 units
It would be tempting after dropping 5 units yesterday to try and change the way we do things, but even with that step back, we still gained about 9 units in college hoops in December and probably 12-14 units in the NBA after disastrous starts in both sports. So, we press on, basing these picks mostly on the wagerline numbers and line movement, with a little of my homemade preseason team/player evaluations tossed into the mix (hoping to update those this weekend before conference season really gets going). As for the rest of the results this year, out of the 10 other sports we've picked in 2008, we've made money in 8 of them and lost in only 2 (golf and WNBA - it might have been more embarrassing to be ahead in the WNBA), so for a couple of new kids on the block (I'm not putting up a picture of that group, this time), we're feeling alright about the whole venture as we start the new year.
Nothing in the bowl games today that we love yet, although still looking. With a couple of good-looking opportunities looming for tomorrow, we're not going to force anything. Enjoy the day off and the football, folks.
